This is a lovely early example of a revolutionary portable instrument which enabled an easier and more accurate measuring of blood pressure than the preceding mercurial manometer allowed. The instrument shows some signs of age to the casing but overall remains in a very good condition.

The glass and enamel r emain in an excellent condition

The inner boards folds out to reveal blue velvet lining

but otherwise remains in a  good condition

but both lids and rims have tested as sterling silver

There are some minor signs of wear to the silver lid consistent with age

Once back ashore he devoted much time to his watercolours
